WHAT TO DO WHEN YOU FIRST REALIZE YOU HAVE INCONTINENCE

Having incontinence can be embarrassing, but there are things that you can do to improve your condition.

If you’ve just realized you have incontinence, first understand that you're not the only one.

Over 30 million Americans suffer from incontinence.

You are not alone.

The NAFC put together a step-by-step guide to help you on your road to a solution.

Start taking charge of your incontinence:

STEP 1: TAKE IMMEDIATE ACTION

Finding a long-term solution is the goal, but in the meantime, start here to find some ways to immediately manage your incontinence.

STEP 2: ASSESS YOUR CONDITION

Once you start figuring out what triggers your incontinence, you'll be able to determine your best treatment plan.

STEP 3: MEASURE YOUR PELVIC FLOOR STRENGTH

This step may seem intimidating at first, but it’s an important one that gives you a baseline and teaches you where your pelvic floor muscles are.

STEP 4: PELVIC FLOOR EXERCISES

Strengthening your pelvic floor muscles is one of the best things you can do to combat incontinence.

STEP 5: DEVELOP A VOIDING STRATEGY

Did you know that you can train your bladder and bowel to empty at specific times?

STEP 6: SEEK PROFESSIONAL HELP

You may reach a point in your journey where you need a little more guidance. Learn when you should seek the help of a professional.
